Birthdays are one of my favorite times throughout the year. Birthday mean that there is a celebration and friends and family with me together to celebrate. My daughter was close to celebrating her birthday, and I was at a loss as to what present to get her. Knowing her, I figured she wouldn’t like dolls as much, thinking she’s too old for them, but I knew no other presents she’d like. My wife had no ideas so I had to find something good on my own, and take responsibility in case it was a failure.
I started browsing all the shops I could find, from toy stores, to modern electronics stores. I didn’t have a lot of money available, either, so I needed something cheap and fun. I was running out of time when I spotted something that looked interesting enough for her, and wasn’t more expensive than a couple of dolls.

Entertainment should be just for the red carpet and those who enjoy their celebrity. Who in the world decided that it is a good idea to get together with careless people to celebrate whatever comes to mind. I suppose it has to do with the fact that people just seem to want to let everyone else know what are their problems, and all their accomplishments. The mishap with my glass serving platter happened ten years ago but, I still remember it plain as day.
My delivering platter was given me, for a gift, by my grandmother who emigrated here from Russia. She and my grandfather had to leave almost everything behind, in order to escape religious persecution. The only things they had brought with them, were the clothes they were wearing, a small bedroll which consisted of a blanket and pillow, and a beautiful serving platter which was made of glass. This platter is the present she had entrusted me.
Now, my grandmother actually received this dish from her own mother. A boy, around the age of eighteen, had loved my great-grandmother from afar and made this tray for her. He was a glass artist and had a reputation for making several beautiful items. Sadly, just after giving this platter to my great-grandmother, he died from some strange sickness.
The masterpiece he created was a beautiful, luminous, light-blue with very little red and yellow flowers made of glass, which were placed along the edges of the platter. Never, in my whole life, have I seen anything which can match the elegance of this dish.
Some of my acquaintances decided to push me into using this tray as the centerpiece for a dinner party. I have to admit, that I was afraid to use it, but their prodding won me over. Unfortunately, my plate died during this dinner.
A person, who I had not invited myself, had too much alcohol to drink, and in trying to be funny, he picked up the vessel, tripped, and dropped my platter and turning it into millions of sparkling shards. My grandmother had guarded this with her life, only to have it destroyed by the hand of an inebriated imbecile. That stopped my entertaining days.

All kids love cartoons, and my cute, adorable, and sweet little kids are no exceptions. I must admit I love cartoons, too. Even if we have different tastes, we spend most of our evenings watching cartoons. They love “The PowerPuff Girls”, while I’m crazy about “Dexter’s Laboratory”, so we might argue sometimes, but all arguments end with a kiss and a new cartoon.
I used to watch Disney cartoons as a kid, and I have tried to share these classic movies with my girls, but they have always been fonder of Cartoon Network than of Snow White, so they have made me watch TV with them, but I must admit Disney cartoons are still my favorites.
No wonder they complain of getting bored any time we get on holidays and they miss their favorite TV shows.
