How often have you been invited to a wedding only for it to approach and you haven’t bought a gift? What do you do? Yes I have too. I often leave it so late and struggle then to know what to buy. On two occasions I have actually bought vouchers on the way to the wedding.

There has been a great deal of interest over recent years in people buying unusual wedding gifts. There are actually many reasons for this. Guests want to be different and they want to out shine each other. Secondly, when couples already live together they already have a lot of things so buying unusual wedding gifts gets around the problem.

A few months ago I was invited to a wedding. I didn’t really know the couple as they were friends of my girlfriend. People would struggle to buy them gifts as they have lived with each other for years so they asked people to help out with their honeymoon. They didn’t just ask for money, they did something a little different.

They did it in a way that was more personal than just asking for money from their guests. They went through all the things they wanted to do on holiday such as meals, rock climbing etc. After that they calculated the cost of each.

Then you as a guest could view all the activities that they wanted to do. Depending on your budget you can decide what you wanted to contribute. You had lots of options including hiring a sun bed or paying for an evening meal. They would then take a picture of them at the breakfast so you could see them enjoying it.

It is obvious from the above that the wedding couple can assist the guests in buying unusual wedding gifts and the sole responsibility isn’t down to the guest.
