Should christening gifts always be traditional?
Shopping for christening gifts can get a bit tiring if you’re bombarded by the same old traditional choices. After all, there are only so many variations on a sterling silver set of cufflinks or bangle that the average person can bear to look through. But it doesn’t have to be this way – there are plenty of alternatives to traditional christening gifts, and these are just a few ideas.
You don’t have to forgo tradition entirely to get a gift that’s a bit out of the ordinary. In fact, many traditional gifts, such as moneyboxes, would be a lot better if they simply weren’t made out of sterling silver. Someone being christened is far more likely to grow up and treasure a moneybox in the colourful design of a plane or princess than one made of silver.
Or you might want to try something completely different. A foot or handprint casting set is a great gift for a christening not only because it is interactive, but because the experience of creating the imprint will be a gift in itself. This is a gift that is both immediately gratifying and will also be treasured in the future as the perfect memento of a special day.
Photo albums have fallen somewhat out of favour because of how easy it is to view and share them online. For a truly modern christening gift why not get a digital photo frame? If you can pre-load it with photos of the baby this gift will instantly delight friends and family.
While some parents will very much expect a religious or traditional christening gift, others will be far more grateful to receive something a little different. There are plenty of options these days, so don’t feel like you have to stick to sterling silver. With a little bit of thought, picking out a fantastic non-traditional christening gift is easy.
